目錄

前言/序言
Far more than 2,000 years, Chengdu has been an important city for foreigners to observe the beauty of Chinese clothing Even today, the Sichuan capital still captivates the world with its unique, copious, and eye-catching dressing styles Historically, there were enough poems depicting how Shu brocade, Chengdu's world-renowned high-quality material, decorated and highlighted the life of the Chengdunese
Clothing and China
Clothing, the object that we wear every day, has always been a channel for cultural dialogue, exchange, and mutual appreciation With its ubiquity and omnipresence, no art form can be more appealing and influential than clothing Chinese people have long known the power of clothing They refer to their ancestors who lived in the Central Plains as "Huaxia" to praise their dress and rituals As Zuo Zhuon (Commentary on the Spring and Aurumn Annals) records: "Xia (夏)-which has the meaning of 'grand'-was used to signify the ceremonial etiquette of China, while huo (華)-as it means 'illustrious'-was used in reference to the beautiful clothing that the Chinese people wore "
Since ancient times, clothing has served a myriad of functions It can insulate people against the cold or heat and provide a hygienic barrier, keeping infectious and toxic materials away from the body Dress codes can remind people to follow the ethical and moral norms necessary for the smooth running of society Moreover, in the process of making oneself beautiful and pleasing to the eye, people can realize their spiritual and artistic pursuits In retrospect, it can be easily concluded that Chinese costume, dwelling in the only civilization that has never been interrupted for thousands of years, has developed for at least 3,000 years No other ethnic group in the world can boast such continuity in their dress culture
